maybe having twins is not easy, but it will give you all the joy in the world. There are many ways that you can tell that you might be having twins, though none of them can act as a confirmation of the fact, until you don’t get an ultrasound done, you will not know for sure if you are
having twins or not. But there are some signs of being pregnant with twins who can help you make the difference between a healthy pregnancy and pregnancy with multiple births. So we have compiled a short list of signs and symptoms of having twins which you can compare your pregnancy with to determine whether you will be having twins or not.

Symptoms of being pregnant with twins

Elevated HCG Levels
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone produced by your body in larger amounts when you are pregnant. Within the first few weeks of pregnancy, HCG levels being to rise in your urine which helps you determine whether you are pregnant or not. It is believed that when you are pregnant with twins the levels of HCG increases than the average level of single pregnancy. However, one thing to note is that the average HCG levels for pregnancy with twins can also fall in the same range as the standard HCG levels present when you are pregnant with twins.

Doppler Heartbeat Count
The Doppler system is a safe and effective way to monitor the fetus’s heartbeat. By just sending in sound waves, you can listen to your child’s heartbeat by the end of your first trimester. If you are pregnant with twins, your doctor may be able to distinguish the heartbeats of the two children. But you need to remember that this is not an accurate sign, especially this early in the pregnancy, as many times the second sound can be different background sounds, or in very rare cases, the sound of the mother's own heart.

Excessive Morning Sickness
All your pregnancy symptoms seem to be amplified when you are pregnant with twins. Though you need to remember that every pregnancy is different and, it is not necessary that you experience all the symptoms. But it has been noted that most women who are pregnant with twins seem to suffer from extreme morning sickness. Very few women who are pregnant with multiple children experience more nausea than they did when pregnant with single babies.

Weight Gain
Generally speaking, women who are pregnant with twins tend to gain 10 pounds more than a female pregnant with a single baby. Though weight gain is not dependent on the pregnancy, it is dependent on what and how much you eat during your pregnancy. The fact remains that when you are pregnant with twins, you will have a bigger stomach than what you get in normal pregnancy. There are other factors that this weight gain is dependent upon, some of them include the woman’s height, body type, and pre- pregnancy weight.

Abnormal AFP Test Results
Alphafetoprotein (AFP) blood test is taken in the second trimester. This blood test will determine the whether your baby is developing just fine or not. The fact that this test comes out higher than usual or gives a positive result can also mean that you are pregnant with twins, which is why your doctor will write you up for further tests to determine whether what the causes are for such a result.

Measuring Large for Gestational Age
Fundal height is a way of determining your baby’s gestational age and his development as well. As weeks pass your doctor will take your fundal height every month or week. Usually, the fundal height is near (plus or minus 2) of your gestation week. If you are pregnant with twins, it is highly likely that your fundal height is more than what it normally should be as the twins will cause your uterus to expand more than usual.

Early/Frequent Fetal Movement
Though it is not a sure sign of you being pregnant with twins, many people believe that if you are having multiple babies, then you will witness the movements of the children to start earlier and that the movement will be more considering that there are two or more babies present in the womb. But do keep in mind that women pregnant with just one baby may also witness a lot of movement.

Extreme Fatigue
When you are pregnant, many different hormones are released in your body which causes the feeling of tiredness and sleepiness. These homerooms can be produced more when you are pregnant with twins due in which you will feel more lethargic, and the need to sleep will be enhanced during this time as the body will be working more to take care of the babies. Though fatigue can be caused due to a few more reasons, it can also be a sign of having multiple births.

History and Hunches
It has been noticed that when a person has a family history of multiple births, it is highly likely that they will be having twins. We also need to give regard to the fact that a mother’s instinct is mostly accurate, and the fact that you may have a deep feeling that you are going to have twins, then it might be possible that they are twins.

The ultrasound
The final way to determine whether your will be having twins or not, with an ultrasound you can simply see whether you will be having twins. The results of the ultrasound will be more accurate if you are in your second or third trimester, but all doubts will be removed once the ultrasound confirms the presence of another baby in the womb.
